So, here we go…

1. I feel like I am ready for my morning coffee.
2.trying to clean and to catch up.
3. Do what you say you are going to do!.
4. If you know me then you KNOW that I am completely unique.
5. It’s hard to know how much time we waste complaining.
6. Our children watch and see our actions and inevitably follows suit.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to dinner with a friend, tomorrow my plans include this and that and Sunday, I want to corporately praise my Jesus!!

Just Another Day in Paradise…

July 21st, 2010 / 8 Comments » / by Lara

Well, it is time to share another wonderful experience with you…

My husband is volunteering for an event at our church tonight and he gave me the task of putting an image transfer onto one of his shirts. You see, instead of PROVIDING shirts for the volunteers, they get to DO it THEMSELVES! LOL! My darling husband works a lot and asked his beloved wife to do him this small favor…

Sadly, he has yet to learn…after 20 years…his beloved is not so good with written directions. You see, I am a very creative, smart and no nonsense sort of woman. However, hand me written directions and I become Lucy Ricardo!

OK, so, I pull out the shirt, transfer and directions this morning and tried very hard to read what could have been Greek to me….

Heated up the iron…

Got the tissue paper and pillow case ready just like the directions said…

Proceeded to transfer the lovely emblem onto my sweet man’s shirt…

Can you guess what Lucy did????

ROFLMBO…I am almost embarrassed to share!

Well, the good news is I DID TRANSFER IT!

The bad news is…

I transferred it ON TO THE TISSUE PAPER!!!

ROFLMBO!

Now, I am sitting here…dreading the words…“Honey, did you get my shirt ready?”

ROFLMBO!!

Good NEWS!

June 28th, 2010 / 3 Comments » / by Lara

Praise Report: Aetna called Friday afternoon and said they got enough information to approve the claim! PRAISE GOD! It really was a miracle. They kept giving us the run-a-round…telling us one thing they needed and the doctor another. Very shady. Finally hubbie called them on it and made a point to get the hospital involved. Anyway, long story short. WE WON! GO GOD!

So, we get 60% of his 2 weeks loss of pay. WAY better than zero! Now, I do not know how long it will take them to get us our money, however I am hopeful it will be RIGHT ON TIME! LOL!

Please pray they send the money soon and we balance out!

THANK YOU ALL for your prayers!!! <3

Unbelievable!

June 23rd, 2010 / 2 Comments » / by Lara

I am SO frustrated! If you read my last post, you know my husband had an accident.

Well, he is now about 85% better and back to work…THANK GOD!

However, Aetna DENIED our disability claim. We pay each week for this. He does not have to be injured on the job. This is our FIRST time ever needing it even though we have paid into it for YEARS! He cracked a rib and was in SERIOUS pain and out of work…DOCTORS orders. Apparently the doctor’s diagnosis and report just not good enough! They are trying to only pay ONE day. DO you believe this???

I mean we pay these people to cover us when stuff like this happens and they REFUSE to pay now. We are trying to appeal the decision. PLEASE pray we win and for our finances. I feel like we never get breathing room when it comes to money. I am TOTALLY stressed. Ticked. Tired…

and still dealing with my own issues…

Speaking of my own issues, I have to go in on July 7 to “talk about my lab results.” I am a bit nervous. WHY do I need to go in if it’s good news…They will not say either way. AH! If I forget to mention it again, please pray for me on the 7th of July between 3:30 and 4:30pm EST. Thank you!

Anyway, there’s the update.

When it Rains it Pours!

June 9th, 2010 / 5 Comments » / by Lara

I always joke that the Velez family never does anything half way. LOL! Well, this past week and a half has proven that comment true!

How, you ask??

Well, let me share my woes…lol…

Last week, I started feeling serious pain in my wisdom tooth and had to wait until TODAY to see the dentist. Also last week, while dealing with the tooth pain, I had a “female issue” that started to cause me distress as well. Both of these issues are extremely painful. :( Tomorrow I see the female doctor to see what’s going on below….Sadly, though, all I got from the dentist is pain pills and another appointment to see the oral surgeon! Pain pills, however, are delightful…ROFL!

OK…think that’s no big deal???

To top it all off, Monday night my darling husband decided to do some extreme showering and fall IN THE SHOWER…HARD…on the side of the tub his ribs hit full force! He cracked ribs and has severe bruising. :( He will be out of work for at least a week…

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

So…I get to play nurse maid to him…homeschool and take care of the kids…work…AND try and deal with what I am going through………..

OK, thank you for listening…I just needed to vent to the blogosphere…

I am not feeling American Idol this Season

May 6th, 2010 / No Comments » / by Lara

I like Lee best…and most weeks Crystal…I have even heard Casey sound good. However, I am really confused as to WHY Big Mike is still on the show…It is like they “plug” him every week. Don’t get me wrong, he seems like a nice guy…but I really do not see the awesome singing talent. He seems more like a cruise line singer or something corn ball that Simon usually likes to refer to.

I am also REALLY not feeling the judges this season. They have given very confusing advice and seem to be very off. The four of them just do not gel in my opinion.

This will be my last season…I will probably follow Simon to his new show. :)

Goodbye Dentist!

April 26th, 2010 / 1 Comment » / by Lara

I am literally fuming! Between Internet issues, annoying people and now the dentists office…GRRR!

I took my oldest to the dentist today to get some work done and this was like the third time in a row between both kids that I waited almost an hour just to get into a room. If I came an hour late, they would not see me!!! GRRR! Plus, they have been getting appointment times wrong and telling me I am wrong…LOL…WELL, I have had the cards as my proof of their stupidity…

OK, back to my fuming…

So, after waiting WAAAAAAY too long, we FINALLY get back there only to be greeted by a nurse with an attitude. Boy, let me tell you, it took every bit of self control not to step out in the flesh on that woman. Even my teenager looked at me her then me like, “oh, snap, that woman is going to dye…”

LOL!

Yeah, she was THAT bad!

So, now we are over an hour and I notice the area where the instruments are that they will be using on my daughter and they are nasty…DIRTY!

I think, hmmm…maybe they are from last patient.

Doctor walks in.

I say, are these the tools you will be using on my daughter.

He says, yep.

I say…”uh, no. You are NOT putting those nasty things in MY daughters mouth. SEE YA!” and I walk out.

Office manager calls me later.

She tells me, how sorry she is. I tell her to cancel all future appointments, we will take our business elsewhere.

She also tells me how she understands, but their tools are sanitary…however, she said the tools should have been in bags and opened in front of patient…

Uh…YA THINK?!!!!??????

Cleaning Top 7

April 12th, 2010 / No Comments » / by Lara

7 Sure Signs You May Need to Get Cleaning!

1. If you have just stepped on something and danced around in pain until you slipped on a magazine, it’s probably time to pick up again.

2. If you find your scissors by feeling around your dining room table until you feel something hard of the correct shape, it’s time to clear off a few things.

3. If you need a gas mask to open your fridge, you might think about throwing away some of those leftovers.

4. If you drop your comb in the bathroom and you pick it up with more hair than is currently attached to your head, it’s time to sweep.

5. If your feet stick walking across the kitchen floor, it’s time to mop.

6. If it takes more than 20 minutes to find your kids when you wake them up in the morning, it’s time to have them clean their rooms.

7. If you haven’t seen the floor of your car for a week because of the Happy Meal litter on the floor and ‘wash me’ is written in the dust on the outside of the car, it’s time to take the hint.

Too Smart for the Robin’s Egg Trick!

March 23rd, 2010 / 5 Comments » / by Lara

The Velez family is a special family. We are quirky and sometimes our humor…especially the leader of the pack, my beloved husband…can be, well, just wrong. ROFLMBO!

Our Robin’s Egg story began about 11 years ago give or take….

My wonderful sick husband decided to play a joke on our first born using a candy that looks just like a little Robin’s egg….Can you see where this is going yet??

He called our sweet naive oldest into the room and the conversation went something like this…

Me (the only sane one among us): Please don’t.

Hubbie: (ROFL-HIS-BO) shhh…it will be funny…

Naive One (oldest daughter age 5/6): Yea, Daddy?

Hubbie: (barely containing his glee) Look what daddy found…

Naive One: An egg!

Hubbie: Yes, it’s a Robin’s egg! Isn’t it cute??

Naive One: Awww…a little baby bird is in there! Can I…

Hubbie: (Pops it  in his mouth!)

Me: (I smack him)

Naive One: (begins to cry)

Hubbie: (on the floor laughing his head off)

Naive One: (still crying…and very confused)

Me: (pondering the conversation that will go on many years from now in some therapists office) You jerk! She thinks you really ate an egg…Come here honey…Daddy is an idiot! He did not really eat an egg…see…it was one of these (I show her the candy).

Naive One: (still confused…but no longer crying)

OK, so we are a bit nuts…LOL…Well, she turned out OK and still rags on him from time to time about it. But all in all she is a well rounded young lady despite her gene pool!

Now…fast forward to last night…

Our youngest, 6, was subjected to the SAME trick!

The low down…

Hubbie: Hey, give me one of the robin’s eggs…I want to play a joke on Boo.

Teenager (Naive One): NO!

Me: Um…I don’t think that’s a good idea…Please don’t. (silently hoping for Jesus to just come back at that very moment to save us all another traumatic episode.)

Hubbie: Come on! It’s funny!

Teenager: I’ll tell her! That is SO mean!

Hubbie: Come ON! Let’s just see…if it looks like she will lose it, I’ll stop and tell her!

Me and Teenager: (VERY reluctantly) Um…well…OK.

Hubbie: Boo…come here. I want to show you something…

Boo: Just a minute

Hubbie: (giggling softly at what he thinks is about to take place)

Me and Teenager: *sigh*

Boo: What is it?

Hubbie: Look what daddy found at work today…(pulls out “egg” and shows her) It’s a Robin’s egg! Isn’t it cute.

Boo: (looks at the “egg” looks at her daddy and quite frankly says…) No, it’s not.

Hubbie: (confused and befuddled) Yes, it is..look at it.

Boo: That’s a piece of candy!

Hubbie: (desperate to get her into agreement) No it’s not. It’s a Robin’s egg!

Me and Teenager: (LITERALLY rolling on couch laughing!)

Hubbie: (continues to try and convince Boo the candy IS an egg)

Boo: (not falling for it) I want a piece!

Me, Teenager and Hubbie: (laughing hysterically)

Boo: (most likely thinking we are all a few short of a dozen, persists…) I want some candy!

And, so there you go…another day in the Velez home and the difference in my beloved daughters….one believed the lunacy and the other was too smart for her own good! ROFLMBO!

Note: My teenager would like me to inform all reading this that she is NOT an idiot! LOL! She is simply a poor little girl who believed her daddy…tragic, really!
